The Nightingale and the Rose
Two beings who could
Scarcely be more different
One soaring in the skies above
Revered for its trilling song
The other tethered to the ground below
Legendary for its artistic white beauty

And yet despite their differences
Or maybe because of them
They have found a love beyond description
Beyond boundaries
Two souls forged from the same one
Incomplete halves on their own
Yearning to be whole together

But there are those who would
See this love be destroyed
Afraid of what such a union could mean
That two so wildly apart
Could find such beauty together
An incomprehensible truth
Made even more so by stubborn disbelief

And it is not without its pains
For the nightingale has beak and talons
And the rose has thorns
Both supposedly for protection
But capable of inflicting so much pain
Unintentionally so
Leaving each other bleeding and weeping

But theirs is a love that perseveres
Through the fires which have tried to destroy it
But only forged it stronger
Trust that had been broken
By thoughtless carelessness
Restored through unimaginable hardship
Breaking down their barriers

The Nightingale and the Rose
Lovers in the purest sense
Giving birth to
The forbidden Red Rose
A singular creation that
Like their love
Shines beyond Eternity
A poem inspired by an old Persian tale as related in Susan Kay's "Phantom". But it does extend to more personal matters as well. I hope you all enjoy.

Ohhh hun, you have no idea how much I love this poem. While I may be suffering from cramps beyond all reason right now, I'll try to write you a thoughtful review.

I love how you included the beauty and flaws of both creatures. A soaring beautiful bird that lives free and can move about but has a beak and talons. A Rose (which you should clarify as white my dear ;) ) that is grounded and fixed with its thorns, but beautiful in it's own right as a romantic flower! Two beings that couldn't be more different and yet are so compatible and despite their love being forbidden somehow flourishes even under the harshest of circumstances <3

A testiment to the strengths of an eternal bond that some have tried to break but will forever remain a union
